“What do you admire most about women?” I ask the man as he takes a sip of his coffee. He sets the cup down with a smug grin, as if my question were some sort of joke. “Her complete submission, of course.”
I hum in disapproval, unimpressed by his answer, just like all the others before him. “Birdie isn’t someone who gives submission easily. What’s your plan for that?” I press.
He chuckles, leaning back in his chair. “Every submissive can be broken. It’s just a matter of the dominant’s willpower.” His smirk doesn’t waver.
I give him a tight smile and slide his application into my folder. I’ve heard enough. “So, when do I get to meet her?” he asks, quickly rising to his feet as I begin to collect my things.
This is my favorite part of the process, and for the first time, my smile is genuine. “Birdie isn’t someone to be extinguished—she’s a flame that needs to be stoked. I appreciate your time, but I have plenty of other candidates to consider—”
“There’s nothing wrong with holding my submissive to high standards. I’m a very experienced dominant—” he interrupts, his voice rising.
“This isn’t about your experience,” I say, trying to explain again, but he cuts me off once more. He goes on loudly about his credentials and expectations, and it’s clear this has little to do with Birdie herself. He hasn’t even met her. This is all about ego.
I sigh, checking my watch as I turn to leave. “You have a nice day,” I say, ignoring his protests as I walk out of the coffee shop. That’s appointment four down—six more to go.
